The University of Georgia (UGA) is seeking applicants forthe position of Weather Network Technician for the UGA Mesonet, aresearch-grade weather and climate monitoring network that supports agricultureand public safety across the State of Georgia. The UGA Weather Network is astatewide network consisting of 90 automated environmental stations thatcollect, archive, and disseminate over one million observations annually. TheWeather Network Technician will be the second of two full-time techniciansresponsible for maintaining the network of stations, including visiting thestations on a regular basis to assess station reliability, maintain the surfacearea around the station, rotate or replace instruments as needed to maintain dataquality, calibrate equipment in the laboratory, and record all maintenance andcalibration activities in databases for historical metadata. The weathernetwork is housed in the Associate Dean of Extension's office administrativelyand provides service to Extension and UGA. The network is currently housed onthe UGA Griffin Campus in Griffin, GA, south of Atlanta.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

·        Install, maintain, and repair weather stations and associated equipment.
 
·        Collect and analyze weather data as requested by the director of the network.
 
·        Maintain accurate records of metadata for weather network maintenance.
 
·        Calibrate weather instruments on a regular schedule.
 
·        Provide technical support to other weather network technicians.
 
·        Maintain supplemental instruments for NADP, UVB, and other agencies at Bledsoe Farms as an occasional backup other employee.
 
·        Stay up to date on the latest weather technologies.

·        Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
 
·        Climb ladders and work at heights of up to 12 feet.
 
·        Drive for several hours and work independently.
 
·        Work in all weather conditions.
