About Us

Jupiter is the global market leader in analytics for resilience planning
and enterprise climate risk management. We are led by pioneers in data,
climate, and earth and ocean sciences, as well as technology, risk
management, company building, and public policy. Our climate risk modeling
solutions save lives and mitigate potentially catastrophic impacts
inflicted by hurricanes, floods, heat waves, wildfires, drought, and other
extreme weather events on homes, businesses, infrastructure, food and water
supplies, and entire economies.

Jupiter is also committed to the world community. Through our Jupiter
Promise initiative we provide services to under-resourced countries
and communities to promote sound decision making while including the
potential impacts of climate change. Employees are encouraged to provide
their expertise to various programs under the Jupiter Promise initiative.

Jupiter is bringing diversity to prepare a diverse planet for our changing
climate. Jupiter was founded on the principle that with the right
approaches and the right team, we can prepare Earth’s economies to meet the
challenges associated with climate change. The world is a diverse place; a
diverse workforce in an inclusive environment is essential to meet our
goals. We go forward together.

Jupiter is hiring a dynamic individual to contribute to our next generation
of flood models. You will work with data scientists, physical scientists,
and software engineers to implement, interpret, and scale flood modeling
capabilities globally. Model preparation, calibration, and execution will
be primary parts of your contributions to Jupiter’s mission. You will
support customer inquiries as they arise, and contribute to interpretations
that support Jupiter’s customers. Innovations toward automation, cloud
deployment, and open-source solutions will provide you the opportunity to
think differently about flood modeling.

Critical Responsibilities:

· Design and implement improvements to Jupiter’s flood models

· Collaborate with leadership to prioritize development and
implementation of flood model components

· Define and review new prototypes and modeling software for inclusion
into the Jupiter ecosystem

· Work with a diverse team of software engineers and scientists who
are collaborating on that development

· Understand Jupiter’s scalable cloud-based computing environment, and
ensure product compliance

· Collaborate with other teams within Jupiter who are working on
complementary product components

· Identify and remove project blockers

· Report to leadership on plans, progress, and risks

· Communicate results, analysis, and interpretation both internally
and externally

What you bring:

· A Doctorate or Masters degree from an accredited college or
university with a field of study closely related to flood modeling, coastal
ocean modeling, land surface modeling, or hydraulics

· At least 8 years of experience in the field, which may include work
towards a Ph.D

· Experience with implementing models at scale in either cloud or HPC
environments

· Familiarity with climate risk from a range of water-related hazards

· Demonstrated experience writing excellent code using high-level
languages such as Python.

· Experience leading projects or teams

· Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in team
environments

· Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within changing
priorities with enthusiasm

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and with other team
members with different scientific and technical backgrounds

· Excellent communication skills

Additional expertise that sets you apart:

· Experience with coupling climate, weather, coastal, hydrologic,
and/or hydraulic component models using open source models

· Experience modeling storm surge and flooding from tropical cyclones

· Experience with statistical and machine learning methods

$120,000 - $175,000 a year

The Pay Range for this position is listed. Actual pay will vary based on
factors including, but not limited to location, experience, and
performance. The range listed is just one component of Jupiter's Total
