We are looking for a motivated postdoc to investigate redox-related
nitrogen and carbon cycling in soils. The candidate will be involved in an
NSF-funded project. Could you please distribute this to your network? Below

*Description *

A postdoctoral research assistant position is available at UW-River Falls
(UWRF) in the Department of Plant and Earth Science beginning September
2024 with Dr. Bahareh Hassanpour and Dr. Jill Coleman Wasik. The University
of Wisconsin-River Falls, part of the Universities of Wisconsin, is located
in scenic west central Wisconsin, 30 miles from the multi-cultural,
multi-ethnic cities of Minneapolis and St Paul. Year-round arts, cultural,
and recreational events are easily accessible from River Falls.

This full-time position is funded for up to two years. The successful
candidate will lead an NSF-funded project investigating redox-related
nitrogen and carbon cycling in soils. Based on their interests, the
successful candidate will also be able to contribute to other ongoing
projects. The Department of Plant and Earth Science has newly renovated
water and soil analysis facilities, and there will be opportunities to use
various analytical techniques. Through the Dairy Innovation Hub of
Wisconsin, the successful candidate will have great networking
opportunities and be able to present the results of this project in Dairy
Summits and Symposiums held biannually in Wisconsin. The review of the
applicants begins immediately, and interviews begin Aug 2nd.

Anticipated appointment date: September 1st, 2024. This position is open
until filled.



*Responsibilities*

·            Design and conduct laboratory and field experiments focusing
on carbon, nitrogen, and soil and water biogeochemistry.

·       Supervise undergraduate students.

·       Coordinate research activities.

·       Present data in scientific meetings.

·       Prepare manuscripts for publication.



*Required Education and Experience*

·       A Ph.D. or the equivalent in environmental science, environmental
engineering, ecology, biogeochemistry, soil science, or related field

·       Experience with laboratory and fieldwork

·            Ability to engage in modeling activities.

·       Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals



*Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities*

·            Excellent English writing and oral communication skills

·            Strong organizational skills

·            Ability to work in a collaborative environment that includes
undergraduate students

·            Ability to multitask

·            Ability to travel/drive to research sites if needed



*Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities*

·            Basic programming skills (R, Python…)

·            An interest in mentoring undergraduate students
