Dear colleagues,

we have an exciting opening for a postdoc at the IBS Center for Climate
Physics in my group.

Postdoctoral Fellow Position – Climate, Health and Tick-Borne Disease
Modeling

  * Employer: IBS Center for Climate Physics
  * Location: Pusan National University, Busan, South Korea
  * Salary: 54-60 million KRW/year
  * Term: Full Time, 2 year, with possibility for renewal

Applicants for this position should have a PhD in climate sciences,
meteorology, epidemiology, physics, computer science or a related field.
Candidates are expected to have strong computational skills, excitement
to work on a new research subject, a good publication record, a high
level of independence, curiosity and creativity, and an interest in
working in an international and interdisciplinary research environment.

The successful candidate will work with Prof. Christian Franzke and
Prof. Axel Timmermann to determine how anthropogenic global warming and
natural climate variability will influence human health and will develop
a tick-borne disease model. We will be using ensemble Earth system model
future projections and km-scale climate model simulations together with
vector habitat models to investigate how climate change impacts human
and planetary health. Furthermore, we will develop a tick-borne disease
model. Ticks are the second biggest transmitters of vector-borne
diseases, behind mosquitoes.

The IBS Center for Climate Physics (ICCP), (http://iccp.ibs.re.kr)
directed by Prof. Axel Timmermann, is dedicated to advancing the
understanding of natural climate variability, man-made climate change
and their impacts on the hydrological cycle, regional processes,
ice-sheets, and sea level. The ICCP is a leading center for Earth system
dynamics and predictability, and integrated climate system science and
climate modeling. The ICCP is generously funded through the Institute
for Basic Science (IBS) (http://ibs.re.kr).

The ICCP is located in Busan, the second largest city in South Korea and
the ninth largest port city in the world. Surrounded by ocean and
mountains, the city has a dramatic natural background. From designer
cafes, international movie and art festivals, award-winning restaurants
to temples at the end of hiking trails, Busan has something to offer for
everyone.

Please submit a cover letter, a short statement of your research
interests, curriculum vitae, the name of 2 references, and up to three
publications (all documents combined in 1 PDF file) to Ms. Jenny Choi
(hahadaye at pusan.ac.kr). If you have any further questions regarding this
position, please contact Christian Franzke
(christian.franzke at pusan.ac.kr).  Review of applications starts on 31st
July 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.

Best regards,
Christian
