Climate Central is an independent group of scientists and science
translators who research and report the facts about our changing climate
and how it affects people’s lives. We use science and tech to generate
thousands of local storylines and compelling visuals that make climate
change relevant and show what can be done about it. We address climate
science, sea level rise, extreme weather, energy, and related topics. We
collaborate with journalists, TV meteorologists, and other respected
messengers, reaching broad audiences through local voices in the US and 150
nations. Our research and visuals appear in thousands of TV spots and well
over ten thousand other news stories each year, and our impact is growing.

About the role:

Climate Central has launched an exciting new initiative that builds on the
expanding body of attribution science to greatly increase attention to the
influence of climate change on weather, especially at the local level. We
are looking for a Weather and Climate Engagement Specialist with strong
knowledge in meteorology and climate science, coupled with a demonstrated
experience in communication and media.

The Weather and Climate Engagement Specialist will play a crucial role in
growing and supporting our outreach and engagement efforts. They will
create and disseminate timely information; support and cultivate our
network of meteorologists, journalists, and other professional partners;
respond to media interview requests; and innovate unique ways to advance
public understanding of climate change through weather.

The VP of Engagement and Climate Matters Director will supervise the
Weather and Climate Engagement Specialist. The Engagement Specialist will
also work closely with our full team of scientists, data analysts,
communication professionals, and content creators. If you are a dedicated
communicator with a scientific background and a genuine commitment to
addressing climate change challenges, we encourage you to apply and be part

renewal.

Job activities include but are not limited to:


   -

   Interpret and communicate climate-linked weather and its societal
   impacts
   -

   Develop timely, effective messages and execute strategies for media
   platforms including digital, streaming, and social
   -

   Engage with media outlets by giving live/recorded interviews, being
   quoted, and providing expert support
   -

   Cultivate and expand partnerships with meteorologists, journalists,
   scientists, and other relevant professionals
   -

   Organize and facilitate webinars, workshops, and conferences sessions
   -

   Lead outreach and engagement projects through planning, execution, and
   evaluation
   -

   Work closely with other departments and programs to achieve the
   organization's overall mission


Essential qualifications:


   -

   Training or experience in meteorology, climate science, or other related
   science
   -

   Demonstrated experience explaining complex science in clear,
   easy-to-understand language that is accessible to a large and varied
   audience
   -

   Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills
   -

   Experience working with the media, including participating in media
   appearances
   -

   Excellent collaboration skills with a track record of fostering lasting
   relationships with both colleagues and external partners, resulting in
   tangible and impactful outcomes
   -

   Strong project management and coordination skills and experience
   collaborating with interdisciplinary teams


Preference will be given to candidates who:

   -

   Have fluency in Spanish


Compensation: The expected base salary range for this position is
$75,000-$80,000 a year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by
work location and additional factors, including job-related skills,
experience, and relevant education or training. Climate Central offers
generous benefits including paid vacation, 12 weeks paid family leave,
medical, dental, 401K with up to 12% matching, and partial college tuition
for children of employees who qualify.

Location and employment eligibility: This position can be mostly remote, in
accordance with Climate Central organizational policy. Presence at
headquarters or other U.S.-based locations is required for periodic team
and organizational meetings, events and retreats. Climate Central’s
headquarters are in Princeton, N.J., operating under standard U.S. Eastern
time business hours. Preference will be given to candidates who can
occasionally come to our Princeton, NJ office. Candidates must be eligible
for employment in the United States.
