*Lecturer For Interdisciplinary Science Position*
UMBC has an opening for a full time Lecturer in the Interdisciplinary
Science Program, starting August 24, 2024, teaching Science 100: Water, An
Interdisciplinary Study. The course focuses on water as a unifying theme
and crosses disciplinary boundaries in biology, chemistry, environmental
sciences and physics. This multidisciplinary, lab-based science course is
designed for undergraduates to fulfill the university science-lab
requirement as part of their university graduation requirements. The course
is designed for non-science majors, and currently serves
600-700 students per year.

The successful candidate will be responsible for two lecture and two lab
sections, per semester, as well as supervising graduate and undergraduate
teaching assistants. This position is non-tenure track and is annually
renewable; a multi-year appointment is potentially available after the
second year, with the potential for further advancement in rank.
Requirements include a graduate degree in natural or physical sciences and
the applicant should have substantial teaching experience with general
education students, as well as experience in laboratory and/or field
instruction, and
curriculum development. The applicant should be experienced with
student-centered and inquiry-based approaches to science teaching. Salary
is competitive and dependent on the candidate's qualifications and
experience. Opportunities for teaching during the summer for additional
compensation are available.

To apply, send a cover letter, current CV, teaching portfolio, statement on
diversity/equity/inclusion, statement of teaching philosophy, and three
letters of reference.
Deadline for application is February 2, 2024. All materials should be
submitted through Interfolio in PDF format (
https://apply.interfolio.com/137775). The letters of reference should be
submitted directly to Interfolio by referees.
