*Job Opening: **Postdoctoral Fellow in Hydrodynamic Model Development*

*Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes ResearchSchool for Environment and
SustainabilityUniversity of Michigan*

*Summary*
A postdoctoral fellowship is available for a highly qualified individual to
join the Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research (CIGLR:
https://ciglr.seas.umich.edu/). The successful candidate will work with the
ecosystem modeling team at CIGLR and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration (NOAA) Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL)
to improve our capacity for integrated Earth system modeling in the Great
Lakes region. This position is in support of NOAA's Climate and Ecosystem
Fisheries Initiative (CEFI), and candidates will collaborate closely with
physical and fisheries modelers at GFDL and other NOAA labs. This research
will be the first to implement MOM6 in large lakes, representing an
important step in integrating NOAA's broader coastal modeling efforts.

While the initial focus of this project is on hydrodynamic modeling, the
postdoctoral fellow is welcome to explore additional model coupling options
available through the NOAA-GFDL framework. These include, but are not
limited to, wave, ice, atmosphere, and biogeochemical components. The
postdoc will be expected to maintain a strong record of scholarly
publication and presentations at scientific conferences and public meetings.

This position offers a highly competitive salary plus benefits. The initial
appointment is for one year, with opportunity for extension for the second
year contingent on performance. Applications will be reviewed on a
first-come first-served basis until the position is filled. The position is
expected to start in early 2024.

*Qualifications*

   - A Ph.D. in physical oceanography, atmospheric sciences or a similar
field, with a strong background in ocean or lake modeling is required.
   - Familiarity with data analysis and visualization in a scripting
environment using R, Python, or similar software is also necessary.
   - Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to lead the
development of manuscripts for refereed journal publication are needed.
   - Successful candidates must be able to work effectively both as part of
   a team and independently.
   - This position is open only to US Citizens or permanent residents due
to federal security clearance required for access to NOAA GLERL facilities
   and resources.
