Happy New Year all!

The Climate, Lithosphere, and Sedimentary Tectonics (
https://clastresearch.com/) and Structure, Tectonics, and OU
Thermochronology (https://outhermochronology.weebly.com/) research groups
at the University of Oklahoma are seeking a 2-year postdoc in tectonics and
thermochronology. The postdoc will be co-advised by Gilby Jepson and Sarah
George. Funding is supported by: (1) an NSF grant on tectonics and drainage
networks in the northern Andes, and (2) an American Chemical Society (ACS)
grant on the impact of apatite geochemistry on fission-track annealing.

NSF grant: Large river systems are important modulators of erosion in
orogenic systems. This project explores the mechanisms that promote
development of intermontane longitudinal river systems, which flow internal
and parallel to orogenic belts, by constraining development of the
Magdalena River in the Colombian Andes. Depending on postdoc interest, the
project could focus on tectonic geomorphology and cosmogenic erosion rates,
stratigraphic archives including generation of chronostratigraphic and
provenance datasets, or evaluation of paleoelevation of the Colombian Andes
using stable isotope proxies. Field work is anticipated.

ACS grant: Apatite fission track is an essential tool for recording of the
time-temperature evolution of basins and orogenic systems. This project
will investigate the controls of trace element geochemistry on the
annealing kinetics of apatite. The study will primarily focus on borehole
samples from the Anadarko basin, OK, with a secondary, orogenic-system
focused application.

If interested, please contact sarahgeorge [at] ou.edu and gjepson [at]
ou.edu with questions and/or an application. Full applications should
include your CV, a 1-2 page cover letter with your qualifications for this
position and overview of past research experiences, a list of 2-3
references, and a recent publication (if desired). Review of applications
will occur after March 15, 2024.

*Anticipated start date:* May-Aug 2024

*Anticipated salary:* $55,000/year (plus health insurance, paid time off
and other benefits, including access to professional development workshops
through OU’s Center for Faculty Excellence, the National Postdoc
Association, and the Postdoc Academy)

*Required Qualifications:*

-PhD by the start date

-demonstrated experience in 2 or more of the following disciplines:
tectonic geomorphology, field-based sedimentology/stratigraphy,
thermochronology, geochronology, geochemistry, stable isotope
paleoaltimetry, provenance

-collaborative attitude and willingness to contribute to the broader
research group

-past field experience

-willingness and ability to conduct field work in the northern Andes

-publication record in peer-reviewed journals

*Preferred Qualifications:*

-past experience in thermochronology

-experience in ArcGIS, QGIS, and/or TopoToolbox and a coding language

-basic Spanish language skills

Many thanks,

Sarah
