Postdoctoral Researcher

The Berkeley Geochronology Center (BGC, an independent research organization adjacent to the University of California at Berkeley) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. The successful candidate will have experience and interest in one or more techniques currently in place at BGC, including noble gas geo- and cosmo-chemistry; 40Ar/39Ar, U-Pb, U-series, and (U-Th)/He geochronology; and paleomagnetism. BGC scientists apply these techniques to a wide spectrum of problems in Earth and planetary science, the evolution of life, and Earth's paleoclimate, and also pursue related methodological advances. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will work closely with one or more of BGC’s faculty with whom their research interests and experimental methodologies are most closely aligned.

Information about BGC facilities, faculty, and research themes can be found at https://www.bgc.org/ <https://www.bgc.org/>. Postdoctoral training at BGC takes place in a rich scholarly environment involving interaction with BGC staff scientists and postdocs but also with students, postdocs and faculty of the Earth and Planetary Science Department at UC Berkeley, with which BGC maintains close ties.

Applicants must have received the doctorate degree by the time of appointment. Preferred start date is Sept. 1, 2024; other start dates are possible by mutual agreement. The appointment is for two years, contingent on satisfactory performance during the first year. Compensation includes salary starting at $66,000, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package.

Applicants should submit (1) a curriculum vitae including a list of publications, (2) a 1-2 page statement of research interests and goals, and (3) the names, addresses, and email addresses of three references familiar with their work. Please include all components of the application in a single PDF document. Applications will be reviewed beginning April 1, 2024 and will be accepted until the position is filled. Please submit applications and any questions to postdoc at bgc.org <mailto:postdoc at bgc.org>.

The Berkeley Geochronology Center is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. We strongly encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply. All qualified applications will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
