We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work at the Institute on the Environment (IonE), University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, on climate and crop yield modeling. This work will support advance warning of food production crises. The primary advisor will be Deepak Ray (dray at umn.edu<mailto:dray at umn.edu>, IonE, UMN), with co-advising by Weston Anderson (UMD, NASA) and Corey Lesk (Dartmouth College). The fellow will explore climate teleconnections and the relative importance of biophysical variables in determining global crop yields and write up the results in high-impact journals. The postdoctoral fellow will build statistical crop yield models that explain how modes of climate variability and land surface climate variables impact crop yields. This project requires collaboration with other researchers in the United States. Experience in statistical modeling is required, and crop yield-weather modeling is an added advantage.
ABOUT THE IonE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Each postdoctoral fellow will have a mentoring team that includes the primary mentor based at IonE, other IonE scholars, and a community, government, and/or industry mentor. This team is committed to support you in both project-based and professional development mentoring. In addition to cohort activities, your experience will be shaped by an individual Professional Development Plan that will allow you to identify your priorities and work with your mentoring team to shape your experiences and skills.
Each fellow will have 20% of their time and funds to support their professional development which can be allocated towards seed projects, skill development, conferences, or other activities. Projects can be split. For example, working half time on one of the above projects and the other half on a community-based project with another PI at IonE. Sign up to know more about the other projects (information to be released in the later half of January 2024).
Salary is 60K to 70K per year depending on experience.
All postdoctoral fellows must be US-based and able to work in the US with visa sponsorship and work authorization for successful applicants. Moving expense will be provided. Flexible working hours and remote work location is possible.
