*Postdoctoral (Research Fellow) position in Urban Climate Modeling *

*Invitation to apply*. The Department of Civil and Environmental
Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites
applications for one Research Fellow or Senior Research Fellow
(Postdoctoral) position in Urban Climate Modeling to begin in the 2nd or 3rd
quarter of 2024.

*The project* “Enhancements of Singapore’s convective rainfall prediction”
will make use of meteorological models in combination with multivariate
observations of rainfall to provide a high spatial and temporal resolution
rainfall reanalysis product for Singapore and to study how climate change
affects mesoscale convective rainfall processes, their statistical
properties, and underlying physics. This will be done using physically
based convection-permitting models and stochastic weather generators.

*Qualifications*. We are looking for a candidate with a Ph.D. degree (or
conclusion expected within 2-3 months) in Atmospheric Science,
Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Science preferably in the
fields of Hydrometeorology, Climate Modelling, or related disciplines. The
candidate should possess specific and broad knowledge of the use of
Convection Permitting Models, such as WRF or ICON, preferably in the urban
domain. Candidates with a multi-disciplinary background are welcome, but
strong data analytics skills and knowledge of climate models, as well as
programming skills (e.g., in Matlab or Python) are required. Previous
experiences in international contexts are also positively evaluated. The
candidate is expected to be a highly organized and proactive person and
able to work both in a team and independently. Demonstration of innovative
scientific results obtained during (and/or after) the Ph.D. and
communication skills are important elements of evaluation. A proficient
command of oral/written English is essential.

*Responsibilities.* The candidate will be responsible for completing the
scientific tasks related to urban climate modeling in the project, leading
and contributing to publications, and is expected to work closely with the
other postdoctoral fellows and Ph.D. students who will be hired in the
project. Besides contributing to the research activities of the project,
the successful applicant is expected to support in a broader sense the
research of the Ecohydrology and Hydrometeorology group at NUS, thereby
providing occasional support to graduate students (M.Sc. and Ph.D.).

The *National University of Singapore* is among the top universities in the
world. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is also very
highly ranked internationally. Further information on the Department is
available at: https://cde.nus.edu.sg/cee/.

*Terms of appointment*. The successful candidate will be offered a Research
Fellow or Senior Research Fellow position (depending on previous
experience) for 36 months (initial contract 12 months) with the possibility
of extension based on performance and fund availability. The contract
conditions follow the National University of Singapore regulations. Working
conditions are excellent and Singapore is an attractive city rated very
high in terms of life quality and living standards.

*Application procedure*. Applications should include in a *single PDF file*:
(i) a motivation letter (one page max), (ii) a detailed Curriculum Vitae
including a list of publications, and (iii) contacts of 2 to 3 reference
persons. Applications should be submitted at the following link:
http://tinyurl.com/4p8w48ra. Shortlisted applications will be asked to
participate in an interview that will take place in person or over a video
conference system.

Additional information about the position may be obtained by writing to
Simone Fatichi (ceesimo at nus.edu.sg) and Nadav Peleg (nadav.peleg at unil.ch).
Screening for the position will start on *March 3rd, 2024* and the position
will remain open until filled. The expected appointment date is the
earliest possible following the committee's decision and administrative
processing.
