*Position Description*
The Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR) in the Earth Institute,
Columbia University in New York invites applicants for an Senior Staff
Associate II to conduct research on global clouds and convective systems.
The Senior Staff Associate II will be responsible for assisting Research
Scientists at the Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR) and APAM-GISS
with climate model and satellite data research project activities focusing
on global clouds and convective systems. They will develop innovative
solutions for analyzing the complex datasets associated with these projects
and will manage the coding and software development portions of these
projects. They also will manage and lead the development of code for
producing (and storing) climate model perturbed physics ensemble (PPE)
datasets.
*Duties and Responsibilities will include:*
--Develop and manage innovative software and analysis scripts for analyzing
satellite data.
--Lead development of (and manage) new software and scripts to create new
figures and images for proposals, presentations, and publications.
--Develop and manage new software to create climate model PPEs and analyze
climate model output.
*Minimum Qualification:*
A Bachelor’s degree in physics, atmospheric science, environmental science,
computer science, earth science, applied physics/math, or a related field
of study is required.
A minimum of 10 years of related experience working in climate modeling or
observational data analysis (and managing diverse complex Level 2 satellite
datasets) is also required. A Master’s degree or equivalent combination of
education and experience is preferred.
Fluency in at least one of Python, IDL, MatLab, Javascript, FORTRAN,
Microsoft Office Applications.
The search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and
will remain open until the position is filled.
Appointments are made on a fiscal year basis and are eligible for renewal
each July 1st, contingent upon performance and funding.

Hiring Salary Range: $100,000 - $110,000
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a
variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets,
qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and
reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of
posting.
