Biological Science Laboratory Technician

Location: Arthropod Borne Animal Diseases Research Unit (ABADRU) at the USDA Agricultural Research Service, Center for Grain and Animal Health Research (CGAHR), Manhattan, KS

Duties: In this position, you will contribute to livestock disease research where we explore the roles of environmental drivers in vector capacity and disease spread. Typical duties include using computers and software packages to collect, analyze, present, and manage data and code repositories of disease occurrence and corresponding environmental variables.

Qualifications Required: The applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. National. Qualifying education requirements and specialized experience are described in the application instructions. Specialized experience is related to assisting with research, collecting, and keeping detailed records of observational or experimental data using automated systems. The USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.

Pay Grades: GS-06 ($44,117-$57,354), or GS-07 ($49,025-$63,733) depending on qualifying education and specialized experience. Promotion potential to GS-09.

About the Center for Grain and Animal Health Research: Scientists at CGAHR work in 4 research units (Arthropod-borne Animal Diseases; Grain Quality and Structure; Hard Winter Wheat Genetics; Stored Product Insect and Engineering) to ensure a safe, abundant, and high-quality food supply through innovation research and technology development for plant and animal health. The program is cooperative with Kansas State University and land-grant universities in the U.S. There are 11 scientists and 4 technicians in the ABADRU. The ABADRU mission is to use cutting-edge, systems-level approaches to understand the ecology and biology of arthropod pests and pathogens to develop innovative and biologically relevant solutions for arthropod-borne disease problems. Our vision is to be a leader predicting, preventing, and mitigating the damaging effects of endemic arthropods and the pathogens they transmit to livestock and other animals.
