JOB DESCRIPTION

*Position Summary:*

The Undergraduate and Environmental Program Coordinator provides daily
administrative support for the Earth, Environmental & Planetary Sciences
(EEPS) Program and the Environmental Science Program and carries out a
range of special projects for the Department Chair, Department
Administrator, and Environmental Sciences Program Director.

The coordinator serves as the point person for a wide variety of matters,
particularly questions and concerns relating to the Environmental Science
Program, and assists with problem-solving. Associated duties include
generating and maintaining Program reports; planning and managing
implementation and occasional financial aspects for all major Program
events; and handling frequent special projects as directed by the EEPS
Chair, Department Administrator, and Environmental Sciences Program
Director. EEPS is a complex and high-achieving department due to its size
and complexity.

*The ideal candidate must be able to multi-task several complex projects
and meet ongoing deadlines.  This position requires someone who can
effectively manage a broad range of issues, work cooperatively with all
staff and faculty members, and remain flexible in a busy and demanding
environment.*

*Workplace Requirements*

This is a part-time (30 hours a week) benefits-eligible position with a
flexible work schedule. Remote work is allowed one day per week with prior
approval. Attendance at events and special projects is expected.
Adjustments to the remote work schedule may be necessary to accommodate
department activities with advance notice provided. Per Rice policy 440
<https://policy.rice.edu/440>, work arrangements may be subject to change.

*Hiring Range*: This is a non-exempt, hourly position with a hiring range
of $26.25/hr to $27.40/hr. (30 hours a week)

*Minimum Requirements:*

   - Associate degree
      - *In lieu of the education requirement, additional related
      experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for
      year basis may be substituted *
   - 3+ years of related experience
      - *In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related
      education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent
      year-for-year basis may be substituted.*

Skills

   - Intermediate knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and
   database software programs to complete work assignments
   -  Intermediate data reporting skills
   - Strong verbal and written communication skills
   - Basic problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
   - Ability to work under moderate supervision and complete tasks timely
   - Customer service oriented

*Preferences:*

   - Knowledge of university policies and procedures is highly desirable.
   - Utilization of database systems and software such as Excel, MS Office
   Suite and others.
   - Work experience in a research university is desirable. Rice University
   work experience is preferred.
   - Knowledge of iO system is desirable.
   - Knowledge of or ability to learn InDesign, Canvas or other graphic
   design software is highly desirable.
   - Ability to work within online software program or databases is
   preferred.
   - Ability to update UG Program social media accounts is desirable

*Essential Functions:*

   - Leads support efforts for EEPS Environmental programs, assisting with
   managing day-to-day operations of the Environmental Science Program and/or
   assigned functions.
   - Assists with several department functions, including department events
   and outreach efforts, EEPS Alumni program, and communications/outreach.
   Interprets, implements, and ensures compliance with policies and
   regulations and recommends changes to departmental procedures and processes
   - Represents the department at the university level and/or to external
   parties
   - Creates and implements outreach plans that may include relationship
   development, communications, and event management
   - Under the general direction of the Environmental Program Director,
   EEPS Chair, and Department Administrator, is responsible for all outreach
   aspects associated with the program, guest relations, scheduling, and
   planning.  Works closely with the EEPS Finance team to ensure appropriate
   financial support for the Program.  Performs all other duties as assigned.
   - Assists with internal and external assessments of the academic program.

*Additional Functions*

   - Works closely with the Grad Student Administrator to coordinate
   student events, recruitment, outreach, academic program assessments, and
   undergrad events.
   - Works closely with the Grad Student Administrator to maintain an
   Alumni Database listserv.
