The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geologic Hazards Science Center in Golden, CO has a vacancy for a Developmental Computer Scientist.  The computer scientist will work within the software development team to support a variety of projects including scientific product creation, distribution, storage, and presentation.  There will be an emphasis on cloud computing and developing robust operational systems.  The incumbent will work with researchers to advance and operationalize systems that provide information and products related to natural hazards.  The incumbent should have strong software architecture and development skills. This permanent position is offered at the GS-13 level, with full-promotion potential to GS-15. Promotion is based on a peer panel review to determine how the incumbent has met USGS Equipment and Development Grade Evaluation (EDGE) series requirements.

The Geologic Hazards Science Center conducts research in geology, geophysics, seismology, engineering seismology, geomagnetism, and geomechanics in order to assess seismic hazards and risk, geomagnetic hazards, and ground-failure hazards on regional, national, and international scales. The Geologic Hazards Science Center is home to the USGS National Earthquake Information Center.
