Dear all,

Our group at Columbia University is currently seeking two or three postdoctoral research scientists to work on tropical cyclones and climate. Please consider forwarding the advertisement below to your students, postdoctoral researchers, or anyone who may be interested in applying.

Best,
Chia-Ying

Description
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) of Columbia University located in Palisades, New York, invites applications for two Postdoctoral Research Scientist positions focusing on the topic of tropical cyclones in climate prediction systems. The Postdoctoral Research Scientist(s) will utlize existing simulations from global models, including those from NASA's GEOS and NOAA's GFDL SPEAR models, to study predictability of tropical cyclones and their landfall hazards, lead peer-reviewed journal articles and present research results at conferences. The Postdoc positions will be based at LDEO in the research group led by Professors Chia-Ying Lee and Suzana Camargo, and will collaborate with Professor Michael Tippett in the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics. The Postdocs will work closely with our collaborators from NASA and GFDL. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years, subject to performance and funding. The proposed start date is December 1, 2023, with some flexibility.

Qualifications
Candidates should have completed or be nearing completion of a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, or closely related discipline. A research background in tropical dynamics, tropical cyclones, and/or global prediction systems is preferred but not required.

If interested, please submit your cover letter, CV, up to 3 pages statement of research interests, and contact information for three professional references to https://apply.interfolio.com/131486

The search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears and will continue until the position is filled. The search committee will begin reviewing applicants 2 weeks after the ad appears.
