The Department of Geological Sciences<http://www.geo.ua.edu/> (DGS) at the University of Alabama seeks a tenure-track faculty (open-rank) with expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI)/Machine Learning (ML) as part of an ML-focused cluster hire within Physics, Chemistry, and Geology. The successful three new faculty members will have an opportunity to interact with each other and UA faculty across campus who are active in AI research. They will also benefit from a new $96 million High-Performance Computing and Data Center<https://news.ua.edu/2023/09/new-computing-center-expands-innovation-opportunities/>.

DGS has strengths in geophysics, tectonics, water resources, geochemistry, and ongoing relationships with the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH<https://ciroh.ua.edu/>), the Alabama Water Institute (AWI<https://awi.ua.edu/>), National Water Center (NWC<https://water.noaa.gov/about/nwc>), and the Geological Survey of Alabama (GSA<https://www.gsa.state.al.us/>).

This position is expected to start in August 2024.
