Dear colleagues,

I have an opening for a postdoc in my group at the Center for Climate
Physics at Pusan National University:

Postdoctoral Fellow – Climate Change and Extremes

Employer: IBS Center for Climate Physics
Location: Pusan National University, Busan, South Korea
Education Level: PhD
Job type: Postdoctoral Fellow
Salary: 54 million KRW/year (~45,000USD)
Term: Full Time, 2 year, with possibility for renewal

The successful candidate will work with Prof. Christian Franzke on the
dynamical response of the atmosphere to global warming, modeling of
extreme weather and climate events and how they will change in a warmer
world. The successful candidate will carry out and analyze climate model
simulations, analyze data sets using modern statistical and machine
learning methods. In particular, we will develop a framework for
examining the moist energy budget. This research will provide new
insights of how global warming affects storms, atmospheric circulation
systems and extreme events. The successful candidate will have the
opportunity to become involved in ingoing exciting ICCP projects on
Earth system predictability and global ultra-high-resolution modeling.

Applicants for this position should have a PhD in climate sciences,
meteorology, oceanography, physics or a related field. Candidates are
expected to have strong computational skills, a good publication record,
a high level of independence but also the ability to work in a team,
curiosity and creativity, and an interest in working in an international
and interdisciplinary research environment.

The IBS Center for Climate Physics (ICCP), (http://iccp.ibs.re.kr)
directed by Dr. Axel Timmermann, is dedicated to advancing the
understanding of natural climate variability, man-made climate change
and their impacts on the hydrological cycle, regional processes,
ice-sheets, and sea level. The ICCP is generously funded through the
Institute for Basic Science (IBS) (http://ibs.re.kr).

ICCP is located in Busan, the second largest city in South Korea and the
ninth largest port city in the world. Surrounded by ocean and mountains,
the city has a dramatic natural background. From designer cafes,
international movie and art festivals, award-winning restaurants to
temples at the end of hiking trails, Busan has something to offer for
everyone.

Please submit a single PDF file consisting of a cover letter, a short
statement of your research interests, curriculum vitae, the name of 2
references, and up to three publications to Ms. Jenny Choi
(hahadaye at pusan.ac.kr). If you have any further questions regarding
these positions, please contact Christian Franzke
(christian.franzke at pusan.ac.kr). Review of applications will start 10th
April 2023 but the position will remain open until filled.
