Lewis & Clark College, a private liberal arts college with 2,100
undergraduates, invites applications for an adjunct professor to teach two
laboratory sections of Environmental Geology (ESS 150) in the Fall 2023
semester (see schedule and course description below). Several laboratory
sessions have typically included outdoor work on- and off-trail in nearby
Tryon Creek State Park, with others devoted to working up data or using
online resources to explore patterns of hazards and disaster impacts. A
separate instructor will teach the lecture component of the course and lead
the day-long field trips. Ph.D. or ABD in Geology or a related field is
required at the time of appointment. Evidence of strong undergraduate
teaching is essential.

A complete application should include (1) a letter of application which
includes a statement of teaching philosophy, past teaching experience, and
research interests; (2) a curriculum vitae; and (3) contact information for
three references. All materials should be addressed to Liz Safran:
safran at lclark.edu with subject line "ESS 150 Application." Review of
applications will begin on Monday, June 26, and continue until the position
is filled.
