A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, SOEST, University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa (UHM). 

The successful applicant will work on NSF-funded projects focused on applications of machine learning models to studies of tropical climate variability and its impacts on extremes, including precipitation extremes and tropical cyclone genesis (start Fall 2023 or ASAP). 
The position is based in Honolulu; telework (from employee’s residence city and state) is permissible subject to review and approval by the hiring authority. 

Primary qualifications:
·       PhD from an accredited college or university in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
·       One to three (1-3) years of research experience using numerical and machine learning models; analyzing climate model output data; presenting scientific results to scientific and general audiences; writing reports and manuscripts for scientific publications.
·       Strong foundation in climate variability and background in machine learning.
·       Ability to conduct research and work collaboratively with colleagues.
