Postdoctoral Scholar: Soil Biogeochemistry of Atmospheric H2

The High Meadows Environmental Institute at Princeton University has an opening for one postdoctoral researcher in the area of soil microbial hydrogen (H2) cycling, focusing on constraining the role of soil microbes in the global H2 budget by performing measurements and modeling. The researcher is expected to be highly collaborative, able to work efficiently across disciplines, including with microbial biogeochemists and ecologists (Xinning Zhang and Linta Reji, Princeton), ecohydrologists (Amilcare Porporato, Matteo Bertagni, Princeton), and Earth System modelers (Fabien Paulot, NOAA-GFDL) to improve knowledge of soil H2 removal, the largest sink of atmospheric H2, and assess its sensitivity to climate change and land-use change using experimental observations and modeling.

A Ph.D. in Biogeochemistry, Environmental Microbiology, Geosciences, or a related field is required. Expertise in biogeochemical measurements of trace gases, microbial meta-omics, and/or stable isotope probing of natural microbial communities is preferred. The position is available for one year, with a possibility for renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and funding. Applicants should contact Professor Xinning Zhang (xinningz at princeton.edu<mailto:xinningz at princeton.edu>) and apply on the Princeton University Academic Hiring website at https://www.princeton.edu/acad-positions/position/29426 with a cover letter, curriculum vitae including a publication list, and contact information for three references.

This position is subject to the University’s background check policy. Princeton University is an equal opportunity employer/affirmative action employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
