Postdoctoral Fellow in Coffee and Carbon
The Gund Institute for Environment at UVM<https://www.uvm.edu/gund> and Root Capital<https://rootcapital.org/> seek an exceptional scientist for a new Postdoctoral Fellowship in Coffee and Carbon. The postdoc will lead a joint effort to understand the capacity of smallholder coffee farms to reduce climate change by removing atmospheric carbon.
Working with a collaborative team, the postdoc will develop novel, primary research on key drivers of carbon emissions and removals, as well as practical carbon removal strategies. The project also involves estimating the costs and benefits of these strategies and identifying payment models with promise to reward coffee farmers for reducing net carbon emissions. We expect the postdoc to publish findings in international peer-reviewed journals, and to help Root Capital apply resulting insights to their work with coffee cooperatives in Latin America.
The Fellow will be based at the Gund Institute and will join a growing cohort of Gund Postdocs<https://www.uvm.edu/gund/postdoctoral-researchers>. The primary advisor will be Taylor Ricketts<https://www.uvm.edu/gund/profiles/taylor-ricketts> at UVM, and co-advisor will be Juana Muñoz Ucrós<https://rootcapital.org/about-us/meet-our-team/team-members/juana-munoz-ucros/> at Root Capital.
