The climate lab, (https://www.akinsanola.com/) at the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Illinois Chicago, invites applications for one postdoctoral position in tropical and midlatitude climate dynamics and regional hydroclimate. Potential research areas include high-resolution dynamic downscaling using the Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model, attribution of regional precipitation changes, regional climate change at convective resolving spatial scales, and extreme weather/climate events.
The successful candidate will work with Dr. Akintomide Afolayan Akinsanola and be expected to prepare and run and/or use global/regional climate model simulations, analyze the outputs, write peer-reviewed journal articles, provide support to graduate students, and contribute to an active scientific environment in the department through group meetings and seminars.
Qualifications:
The selected candidate must have recently received a Ph.D. in climate and atmospheric science, or a closely related field, and must be able to demonstrate the following essential criteria (a) a track record of producing high-quality research publications in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, commensurate with experience; (b) a strong background in tropical and midlatitude climate dynamics and regional hydroclimate; and (c) research experience involving using/simulating global/regional climate models and strong programming skills (such as NCL, Python, R, or equivalent) to handle large datasets on high-performance computing resources.
This position is available immediately, contingent upon completing all documentation required for employment, and salary will be highly competitive along with a competitive benefits package.
