Studies (CIMAS) seeks candidates for a Senior Research Associate to work on
development of the Hurricane Analysis and Forecast System (HAFS).

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of The
University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth
Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Research
Associate II to work in Miami, FL.



The successful candidate will be part of a team working on development of
the Hurricane Analysis and Forecast System (HAFS), NOAA's FV3-based
next-generation hurricane forecast model. The job will involve development
and implementation of code for HAFS, and also performing model runs (in
both real time and retrospective mode) to evaluate the model. In addition,
the assistant scientist will have the opportunity to perform TC research
studies using operational and experimental versions of HAFS. The model
results will be presented in peer-reviewed journals and professional
meetings.



SPECIFIC TASKS

-Develop and transition code for HAFS (including nesting and grid related
code).

-Perform model runs to test and improve the code.

-Post-process and analyze HAFS model output.

-Conduct TC research studies (from mesoscale to synoptic scale processes)
using HAFS.

-Report the results of research and development in professional meetings
and peer-reviewed journals.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

-MS in Atmospheric science, meteorology, mathematics, physics, computer
programming, environmental science, physical oceanography, engineering, or
other related fields and at least 1 year of relevant work related experience

-Programming experience with Fortran (or a similar language) in an HPC
environment is preferred.

-Experience working with gridded meteorological and/or geophysical data
(especially in netcdf and grb/grb2 format).
