Position description
A Postdoctoral researcher with interests in coupled climate dynamics over
the last millennium is sought for a project studying the interactions of
tropical ocean basins (Pacific, Atlantic, Indian). The postdoc will have
responsibility for diagnosing metrics of climate variability across the
major ocean basins and determining the mechanisms for their interaction,
using output from the isotope-enabled Community Earth System Model (iCESM)
and other coupled climate models. The Postdoc will also have the
opportunity to design and perform sensitivity experiments with iCESM, to
isolate the isotopic signatures associated with particular aspects of
inter-basin climate dynamical interactions. The Postdoctoral scholar will
work closely with Dr. Samatha Stevenson-Michener. The project is
collaborative between UCSB and the University of Michigan, so the position
will also include opportunities for regular collaboration with the Michigan
PI and students working on the project.
This is a full-time position. Competitive salary and benefits commensurate
with experience. The initial appointment is for 2 years with the potential
for an additional year based on satisfactory performance and funding
availability.
The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to
the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research,
teaching, and service as appropriate to the position.
