Spark Climate Solutions <https://www.sparkclimate.org/> is excited to
announce a funding opportunity
<https://www.sparkclimate.org/methane-removal/exploratory-grants> for
exploratory research related to atmospheric methane. Spark is a
science-driven nonprofit focused on identifying sources of unmanaged
climate risk and accelerating research advancements in those fields.

Reducing the rate of near-term warming depends heavily on reducing
atmospheric concentrations of methane. The highest priority action is to
lower anthropogenic methane emissions. However, even with aggressive
emission controls, there remains unmanaged risk from natural methane
emissions (e.g. wetlands, permafrost), which are rising. Spark invites
proposals with transformative potential to advance the understanding of
natural methane sinks and potential atmospheric removal approaches.

Proposals will be considered across three research tracks: Methane Sink
Assessment, Enabling Research Tools, and Exploring Potential Atmospheric
Methane Removal Approaches.

The first submission deadline is March 1, 2024, with award decisions by
mid-April. Subsequent submission deadlines will be every three months on a
rolling basis. Grants will be up to $300,000 USD with a period of
performance of up to 2 years. For more information and to apply, please visit

Spark will host three webinars relevant to this funding call in January. To
