Penn State’s Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position focused on the development of stochastic weather generators for use in climate change applications. Successful candidates will join a multi-institutional and transdisciplinary research team with interests in basic climate science, climate risk management, multisector dynamics, and climate data product development. This Postdoctoral Scholar position is funded through the DOE-supported Integrated Coastal Modeling Project (ICoM, https://icom.pnnl.gov). The selected candidate will also have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with researchers on affiliated projects (https://pches.psu.edu, http://tiny.cc/bsec, https://midatlanticrisa.org, https://psirc.psu.edu, ) and through the Penn State Center for Climate Risk Management (https://clima.psu.edu). The position provides unique opportunities for research, education, outreach, decision support, cross-disciplinary mentoring, and professional development.
Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g. meteorology, hydrology, statistics, etc.) prior to the starting date of their appointment. Competitive candidates will have strong computational and quantitative skills, familiarity with climate datasets, and a clear orientation toward transdisciplinary collaboration. Proficiency in one or more relevant programming languages (e.g. R, Python, NCL, Julia, Fortran) and evidence of effective scholarly communication are both essential. Experience working in a high-performance Linux cluster computing environment is also desirable.
