Hello Earth Sci jobs list --

We are hiring two to three postdoctoral fellows to join us at GEUS (Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland) for periods of 24 and 30 months to work on Greenland glaciology themes. Key job descriptions copied below, full details at https://candidate.hr-manager.net/ApplicationInit.aspx?cid=5001&ProjectId=170190&MediaId=5. ALL POSITIONS INCLUDE THE POSSIBILITY FOR FIELDWORK.
We are seeking postdoctoral fellows who can assist across multiple projects that broadly investigate surface and basal forcing of the Greenland ice sheet, as well as its ice dynamic response to recent climate change. The specific tasks on which the postdoctoral fellows will be working on are:

  1. Processing of large batches of satellite imagery, especially Landsat-8/9 B10 thermal imagery, to identify persistent subaerial heat signatures associated with hot springs across Greenland's tundra areas. Thematic knowledge on hot springs and ice-sheet basal heat flow boundary condition is an asset.
  2. Deploying GPS stations in the vicinities of major Greenland outlet glaciers. Analyzing these stations to assess local strain rates, ice deformation, and basal sliding, in the context of satellite-derived velocity fields. Thematic knowledge of ice dynamics, including fracture and continuum mechanics, an asset.
Postdoctoral fellows will organize and lead large work packages within a team environment. Once qualified, they will also potentially serve as fieldwork leaders. They will participate in and lead team-level publications on various topics of ice-climate, ice-ocean and ice-bed interactions. Postdoctoral fellows will be encouraged and mentored to develop into independent researchers.
Call for applications closes 31 August 2023.

Best wishes from Copenhagen, Liam
