Hello all,

I am excited to announce that the Georgia Tech Ice & Climate group has a two-year postdoctoral fellowship available as a part of the ICESEE (Ice Sheet State Estimator) Project, funded by the National Science Foundation. This project is led by Prof. Alex Robel at Georgia Tech, and includes collaborations with Prof. Talea Mayo at Emory University and the ISSM Development Team. The postdoctoral fellow will lead the development of the ICE sheet StatE Estimator (ICESEE), a new standalone software package for adding ensemble-based data assimilation capabilities to existing ice sheet models. Contingent upon progress, the fellow may also be involved in developing some of the first gapless gridded "reanalysis" products of historical glacier change.

Starting salary for this position is 70,000 USD per year, commensurate with other nationally competitive postdoctoral fellowships. Start dates in 2024 are negotiable. This is a two-year fellowship, reviewed annually on the basis of fellow performance, with extension to a third year possible. The position is based in Atlanta, GA (USA), though flexible and remote work arrangements are negotiable. All postdoctoral fellows in the Ice & Climate Group receive individualized career coaching from Prof. Robel, with strong prior outcomes as listed on the group website. Application information is below, and more detailed information about the position can be found at this link: https://iceclimate.eas.gatech.edu/opportunities/

Application eligibility and details: Candidates will be considered who have a PhD (or anticipated completion of a PhD before start of the appointment) in any relevant science, math, computing, or engineering fields. Experience in ice sheet modeling is NOT required. At least some experience in computer programming is desired, but any interested applications who are unsure of their qualification may inquire about their potential fit for the fellowship. Interested candidates may apply by e-mailing application materials to Alex Robel (robel at eas.gatech.edu<https://mailto:robel@eas.gatech.edu>), in the form of a single PDF with: (1) CV, (2) contact information for two references that can speak to the candidate's qualifications for this position, and (3) a short statement (less than 300 words) explaining their interest in this position and relevant previous experience/research. Review of applications will begin September 25, 2023.

Best,
Alex Robel
