Dear colleagues,

I have an opening for a postdoc in my group at the Center for Climate
Physics at Pusan National University:

Postdoctoral Fellow – Dynamics of Climate Variability and Extreme Events

Employer: IBS Center for Climate Physics
Location: Pusan National University, Busan, South Korea
Education Level: PhD
Job type: Postdoctoral Fellow
Salary: 54 million KRW/year (~45,000USD)
Term: Full Time, 2 year, with possibility for renewal

The successful candidate will work with Prof. Christian Franzke on the
dynamics and variability of storms and large-scale circulation systems
in a set of global ultra-high-resolution climate simulations. The
successful candidate will carry out and analyze climate model
simulations, analyze data sets using modern statistical and machine
learning methods. The research will focus on the dynamics of storm  and
large-scale circulation system changes in a warmer climate,
cloud/moisture-circulation interactions, and extreme events. The
successful candidate will have the opportunity to become involved in
ingoing exciting ICCP projects on Earth system predictability, global
ultra-high-resolution modeling and stochastically driven simulations.

Applicants for this position should have a PhD in climate sciences,
meteorology, oceanography, physics or a related field. Candidates are
expected to have strong computational skills, a good publication record,
a high level of independence but also the ability to work in a team,
curiosity and creativity, and an interest in working in an international
and interdisciplinary research environment.

The IBS Center for Climate Physics (ICCP), (http://iccp.ibs.re.kr)
directed by Prof. Axel Timmermann, is dedicated to advancing the
understanding of natural climate variability, man-made climate change
and their impacts on the hydrological cycle, regional processes,
ice-sheets, and sea level. The ICCP is generously funded through the
Institute for Basic Science (IBS) (http://ibs.re.kr).

ICCP is located in Busan, the second largest city in South Korea and the
seventh largest port city in the world. Surrounded by ocean and
mountains, the city has a dramatic natural background. From designer
cafes, international movie and art festivals, award-winning restaurants
to temples at the end of hiking trails, Busan has something to offer for
everyone.

Please submit a single PDF file consisting of a cover letter, a short
statement of your research interests, curriculum vitae, the name of 2
references, and up to three publications to Ms. Sueyoon Lee
(sueyoon at pusan.ac.kr). If you have any further questions regarding these
positions, please contact Christian Franzke
(christian.franzke at pusan.ac.kr). Review of applications will start 8th
May 2023 but the position will remain open until filled.
