The Forest Inventory and Analysis Units (FIA) in the Pacific Northwest Research Station (PNWRS) and the Southern Research Station (SRS) are excited to share the below job announcement for TWO GS-0401/1550-13 Supervisory Biological Scientist/Supervisory Computer Scientist positions. This is a shared vacancy announcement as both FIA units are desiring to fill their Information Management team leaders. There are TWO vacancies: the PNWRS position is remote within the PNWRS regional area while the SRS position is located in Knoxville, TN. Key Responsibilities:

  *   Use state of the art computer science, mathematical modeling and simulation, and database management techniques and data standards.
  *   Apply and integrate techniques from workflow analyses, data and information management (IM) remote sensing, image processing and analysis, forest inventory, geographic information systems (GIS), geospatial analysis, and database operations.
  *   Determine the nature of test parameters to be measured and plan approaches to be used to evaluate a software system.
  *   Develop improvements to the procedures used in collecting, verifying, compiling, and summarizing strategic inventory data.
  *   Provide technical data and information management related advice to collaborators and managers.
  *   Prepare and implement new procedures, criteria, and specifications for systems development
  *   Analyze alternatives and recommends solutions relating to the complete life cycle for information systems and information management systems components.
  *   Conduct data management consisting of remote sensing data, natural resource inventory, geographic information systems, and/or (GIS) database operations.
  *   Conduct research, acquisition, and testing of computer-based forest modeling and simulation tools.
  *   Correspond with collaborators and vendors to exchange or gain information on new developments in computer science technology.
