The Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University invites
applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellow (postdoc) position in Prof. Elizabeth
Barnes’ research group <https://barnes.atmos.colostate.edu/>. The Barnes
Group is a collaborative, creative and engaged community of world leaders
in the exploration of novel uses of data science for Earth system research
and will support the successful candidate in contributing to this emerging
field!

The individual in this position will perform research in the fascinating
area of machine learning and explainable AI for weather and climate
science. Specifically, they will explore state-of-the- art machine learning
methods to better identify and predict extreme events (e.g. hurricanes,
heatwaves) within observations and climate model output. The exact scope of
the work will depend, in part, on the individual’s skills and interests.
The position is funded by federal grants from DOE and NOAA.
