Title: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Location: University of Florida – Dept. of Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences (Gainesville, FL)
Position description
A one-year postdoctoral position is available at the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) to study nutrient cycling, soil health, and water management in vegetable production systems, working on two projects.

1) The research associate will compile and analyze data from a 2-year project funded by a Southern SARE grant, in addition to writing several research manuscripts. This work focuses on nutrient and water management in mixed organic vegetable systems. Although some sample processing in the lab might be needed, field activities for this project will be completed and the main focus will be on data analysis and writing. This is a collaboration with Dr. Eban Bean (Agricultural & Biological Engineering).

2) The research associate will help launch a new project as part of a USDA grant focusing on the effects of regenerative management on nutrient cycling and soil health in systems that are transitioning to organic agriculture. Work for this project will mostly consist in experimental design and setup, field sampling, sample processing in the lab, and preliminary data analysis.
The postdoctoral research associate should have the ability to work effectively in both field and lab settings, lead data analysis and writing activities, play an important leadership role in inter-disciplinary projects, and help organize and participate in extension activities.
 Responsibilities:

• Analyze and interpret data using appropriate statistical methods

• Prepare and submit manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals

• Implement experiments and collect samples, in a hot and humid environment

• Process experimental samples, including in the laboratory

• Review relevant literature

• Work and coordinate with other team members, from undergraduate interns to co-PIs
 Minimum qualifications:

• PhD in biology, soil science, agricultural sciences (e.g., Agronomy, Horticulture)

• Expertise and experience in nutrient cycling and soil health

• Experience and ease working with R to analyze and visualize data

• Effective scientific writing and publication in English
Preferred qualifications: Expertise in water management; proficiency with R to conduct statistical analyses and plot figures; experience with manuscript writing and publication.
