The Staff Associate II (SAII) will support current and new research and 
capacity building initiatives for the Climate Impacts Group at the 
Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR) within the Climate School.  
They will serve as a scientific communicator.

The SAII will assist with the creation of visual representations to 
relay key concepts, lessons learned, or other information interpreted 
from research findings for use in research outputs (publications, 
reports, info briefs, blogs, videos, etc.) for live, web, and social 
media presentations to the public. They will also assist in facilitating 
and developing materials for, and participate in, research and capacity 
building meetings, workshops and trainings, as well as the development 
of documents and processes such as the drafting of research discussion 
agendas, discussion summaries and scientific reports; planning task and 
timeline tracking; and activities that help raise awareness of research 
findings. They will help draft and post blogs or social media posts that 
provide succinct highlights of interpreted research or policy findings.  
S/he will be expected to perform other duties as assigned to support 
research project(s) needs.

*_Duties and Responsibilities:_*

  * Assist with the creation of visual representations (e.g., charts,
    diagrams, graphics, video, etc.) to help relay complex scientific
    concepts, results, lessons learned, or other messages from research
    findings for use in research outputs (publications, reports, info
    briefs, web pages, etc.).
  * Help with preparing project reports, as well as drafting and posting
    of blogs or social media posts to highlight the research findings.
  * Facilitate, develop materials for, and participate in, research and
    capacity building meetings, workshops and trainings.  Assist with
    the drafting of documents and processes including taking notes on
    research discussions, and helping with activities that raise
    awareness of research findings.
  * Participate in regular group and project meetings and perform other
    duties as assigned.
  * The Staff Associate II will work independently but will meet with
    the supervisor on a regular basis (about once per week) to discuss
    ongoing activities, results and outlines steps for the work.
  * Under the supervision of the Adjunct Senior Research Scientist, the
    Staff Associate II will coordinate and carry out activities related
    to the assigned projects, and help plan follow-ups.
  * Independent judgement and initiative is required when carrying out
    these activities.

_*Qualifications:*_

  * Bachelor's degree in Science Communication, Atmospheric Science or
    Environmental Science and at least 4 years of related experience.  A
    Master's degree in a related field of study may substitute for 2
    years of experience.
  * Demonstrated experience in the creation of visual information to
    convey complex concepts and/or to appropriately represent scientific
    data in graphical or animated forms.
  * Familiarity with climate change and impacts in a scientific research
    setting a must.
  * Highly skilled in the use of graphical software packages (InDesign,
    etc.) in Macintosh or PC environments. Adept in the use of Microsoft
    Office and Adobe Illustrator tool suites.
  * Familiar with basic html or java scripts.
  * Excellent writing, communication, presentation and organizational
    skills.
  * Familiarity with mapping or Geographic Information Systems tools
    preferred.


Appointments are made on a fiscal year basis and are eligible for 
renewal each July 1st, contingent upon performance and funding.

The search will remain open for at least 30 days after the ad appears 
and will continue until the position is filled.
