Hello,
The Copernicus journal Earth System Science Data (ESSD) is seeking a Chief Editor (or Editors) for the Atmosphere domain. ESSD is an open access journal supporting open data and open science. This is a volunteer position.
We're also seeking Topical Editors (with atmosphere expertise) so feel free to reply to this ad if that is your interest.
I'm the CE for the Ice domain and happy to answer any questions you may have about the journal. I personally have found editing to be both more rewarding and easier than reviewing. You're always welcome to review the papers that catch your attention, but the work consists of recruiting a network of Topical Editors in your domain, and then assigning the 2-4 papers/month to the TEs, who deal with the reviewers and review process. There may be more papers before certain global events (IPCC reports or COP meetings) or if we do a joint special issue with another journal.
It's a good team of CEs, and we're filling a near-unique role in the important and growing field of data publications and open science.
