Hi all!
We are hiring 2 postdoctoral positions for up to 5 years at University of
Illinois Chicago and Argonne National Lab in the field of ecohydrology,
ecophysiology or biometeorology with an emphasis on urban systems.
The project is part of the DOE-funded *Community Research On Climate and
Urban Science (CROCUS)* that endeavors to develop new observational and
modeling tools to support decision-making to reduce climate risks -
particularly for the most vulnerable populations - across the city of
Chicago. The advertised position(s) involve: (1) extensive field work at
sites through the Chicago area, (2) working with stakeholders and community
partners to understand local climate risks across neighborhoods in Chicago
and (3) data analysis of remote sensing and model outputs. The candidate
should be familiar with setting up and maintaining field sites and
instrumentation, and be enthusiastic about mentoring and community
engagement.
The position requires a doctorate degree in ecology, Earth or environmental
sciences, or a related field; strong quantitative skills; experience with
field equipment and data loggers, some experience in urban systems and a
valid driver’s license. Candidates are expected to have strong curiosity,
self-motivation and capacity for independent work, with demonstrated
writing and oral communication skills. Knowledge of coding in Python, R or
Matlab are a plus but preference will be given to candidates with strong
records of community engagement and urban ecology.
To apply, please complete the online application at https://jobs.uic.edu
(click on the Job Board and then on the position link). Applicants should
include a cover letter indicating their fit and interest in the position, a
current CV and names and contact information for at least three
professional references. Application materials will be accepted immediately
and will remain open until the position is filled. Questions can be
submitted by email to berkelha at uic.edu.
Best,
Max

The University of Illinois at Chicago resides on the traditional
Territories of the Three Fire Peoples - the Ojibwe, Odawa and Bodewadmi,
purchased after two-and-a-half years of open warfare, decades of
violent encroachment, and the defeat of a pan-Indian movement to keep
settlers out of the Great Lakes region at the Treaty of Chicago in 1821,
receiving their final payment before moving westward in 1835. The area was
also a site of trade, gathering, and healing for more than a dozen other
Native tribes.
