The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (NMT) invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in Hydrogeochemistry/Hydrogeology. Applicants should have a PhD. in Earth Sciences, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment. We seek candidates with interests in aqueous geochemistry, isotope hydrology, contaminants, flow and transport in porous and fractured media, and/or vadose zone hydrology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a cutting edge externally funded research program and teach 3 classes per year at the graduate and undergraduate level.
New Mexico Tech, located in the central Rio Grande valley community of Socorro, specializes in science and engineering education and research and has an enrollment of approximately 1700 undergraduate and graduate students. NMT’s Department of Earth and Environmental Science (www.nmt.edu/academics/ees) is a leading department on campus, with strengths across the sub disciplines of Geology, Geochemistry, Geophysics, Geobiology, and Hydrology. In addition to 16 tenured/tenure-track faculty, many researchers on campus (e.g., with the NM Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources, and the Petroleum Recovery Research Center) are adjunct faculty in the department. Students at all levels participate in research. Per NSF, New Mexico Tech is the top public institution in the US, and 6th overall, (https://ncses.nsf.gov/pubs/nsf22321) in the rate of baccalaureate recipients going on to earn a PhD in the Physical and Earth Sciences.
