We seek a full time field manager for May 8, 2023-~August 15, 2024 to help
organize and lead a forest ecology field campaign and experiment in
interior Alaska. Specifically, the field manager will be responsible for
planning the field season and organizing logistics before the season,
travel to Alaska with the research team, supervise research technicians in
the field to ensure rigorous data collection and safety, and briefly help
with field season wrap up. The chosen candidate will gain valuable skills
in leading ecological field research in a remote setting and will be
exposed to cutting edge approaches in population and community ecology,
biogeochemistry, and microbial science. The candidate will have the
opportunity to contribute to the research intellectually. The right
candidate could have the opportunity to continue contributing to the
research during the data analysis and paper writing phase. This is an
hourly paid position. Travel to Fairbanks from Millbrook, NY will also be
covered, as will room and some costs associated with board while in Alaska.

Futures Lab based at Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies. Cary Institute of

Duration: This is a full time, seasonal paid position beginning ~May 8,
2023 and ending ~August 15, 2023

Location: Millbrook, NY with 6 weeks in and around Fairbanks, AK.

Salary: $25 per hour

Qualifications: Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree
granting institution or have already received an associates or bachelor’s
degree in biology, ecology, forest science, or a related field. Successful
candidates will have past ecological field work experience, extensive
wilderness experience, and will be detail oriented. Candidates must have a
valid state driver’s license, be able to hike 10 miles in cold, wet
conditions, and carry 50 lbs. We prefer candidates to be Wilderness first
aid or wilderness first responder certified, to have led or organized a
past field season with proven ability to handle complex logistics of
outdoor expeditions, and to have experience with data entry.

Field manager responsibilities: The responsibilities of the field manager
include training, and supervising field technicians, overseeing and
participating in field operations, organizing field equipment, and ensuring
the completion of fieldwork and data entry protocols to a high scientific
standard. The field manager will be expected to coordinate closely with PIs
to create fieldwork schedules and to act as team leader for the field crew
to ensure appropriate conduct that leads to a safe, friendly, and
harassment-free work environment for all.
