Hi:

Could you kindly post the postdoctoral fellowship ad listed below?

Thank you!

Dr. Clara Orbe

Columbia University, Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Stratosphere-Troposphere Coupling in the Tropics

The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics at Columbia University in New York and NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) invite applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position to conduct research into stratosphere-troposphere coupling in the tropics, with the goal of helping improve the performance of global climate model parameterizations and constrain their predictions of changes in surface climate and teleconnections between the tropics and high latitudes. Appointment is made annually and is contingent upon funding and performance.

The successful candidate will use NASA/GISS climate models and multiple sources of observed data to study the processes of coupling between the stratosphere and the troposphere via several pathways, including modulation of the Madden-Julian Oscillation by the Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO), modulation of the QBO by the El-Nino Southern Oscillation, and possible interactions between variability in the stratospheric polar vortex and the QBO. The goal is to use these analyses to improve the GISS global climate model and make the model response to changes in stratospheric dynamical and compositional changes more coherent and more skillful. The postdoc will be expected to perform original research, present the results of the research at scientific meetings, and publish first-author papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Required Qualifications
-PhD. in atmospheric dynamics or a directly related discipline is required by the start of the appointment
-Strong mathematical and programming skills
Preferred Qualifications
-Fluency in Python
-Demonstrated experience with both stratospheric dynamical and tropospheric convective processes and datasets and interest in bridging the gap in meaningful ways
-Expertise in running global climate simulations
-Strong command of the English language (verbal and written)
