The Cryosphere Geophysics and Remote Sensing (CryoGARS) Glaciology Group at
Boise State University is recruiting a graduate student to conduct
interdisciplinary research focused on mapping of freshwater fluxes from the
Greenland Ice Sheet under the supervision of Dr. Ellyn Enderlin. Student
research tasks will include the development of iceberg melt rate estimates
from very high-resolution elevation datasets and extrapolation of iceberg
melt rates and meltwater fluxes around Greenland. The project involves
close collaboration with Dr. Twila Moon (NSIDC) and Dr. Dustin Carroll
(Moss Landing Marine Labs), including intercomparison of remotely-sensed
and ocean observation-based iceberg melt rate estimates. The student may
also get involved in education and outreach related to the project,
including interacting with project artist, Rob Reynolds. Skills that will
be used and developed under the project include remote sensing; coding,
including open data practices; glaciology and oceanography knowledge; and
team work.

Two years of student funding (stipend, tuition, fees, and health insurance)
is available for this NSF-funded project. The position is open to Masters-
and PhD-level students, with funding beyond two years available through
teaching assistantships and/or additional funded research projects. The
graduate student stipend compensates students for up to 20 hours of
research per week during the academic year with the option for full-time
research funding in the summer months.

The Department of Geosciences at Boise State (
https://www.boisestate.edu/earth/) is dedicated to providing high quality
educational opportunities for students enrolled in a number of degree
programs. The CryoGARS Glaciology Group welcomes applications from students
with diverse backgrounds to join our group (

to engage in a variety of activities in the city of Boise and the
surrounding natural areas and the Graduate College at Boise State offers a
number of professional development opportunities (
https://www.boisestate.edu/graduatecollege-success/) to help graduate
students succeed.

Applications must be submitted through the Boise State Graduate College by
January 3rd for full consideration. The Department of Geosciences does not
require GREs for all applicants and accepts unofficial transcripts for
domestic applicants. Application requirements can be found at
