The Terrestrial Ecosystem Science & Technology (TEST) group at Brookhaven National Laboratory / Stony Brook University is currently recruiting two new Ph.D. students with and interest in either Arctic Ecosystem Ecology or Tropical Plant Ecophysiology

Arctic Ecosystem Ecology
a Ph.D. student with an interest in one or more of the following areas:
·         Plant functional ecology
·         Modeling of Arctic carbon, water, and energy cycling
·         Analysis of remote sensing data and the use of Unoccupied Aerial Systems (UASs)
·         Data science and machine learning
·         Conducting field work
A degree in ecology, environmental science, remote sensing, or geography is preferred, however students with a background in computer science or statistics and an interest in climate change research are also encouraged to apply. The student will be supervised by Dr. Shawn P. Serbin (sserbin at bnl.gov<mailto:sserbin at bnl.gov>) and have the opportunity to structure their thesis around research supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Next Generation Ecosystem Experiment – Arctic project. Financial support is available through a combination of research grants, graduate fellowships, and teaching opportunities.

Tropical Plant Ecophysiology
a Ph.D. student with an interest in one or more of the following areas:
·         Plant physiology
·         Modeling tropical carbon cycle processes
·         Conducting field work in the tropics
A degree in the life sciences is required, preferably in plant biology or ecology. The student will be supervised by Dr. Alistair Rogers and have the opportunity to structure their dissertation around research supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Next Generation Ecosystem Experiment – Tropics project. The successful candidate will conduct research at NGEE-tropics field sites that include tropical forests in Panama and Brazil. Financial support is available through a combination of research grants, graduate fellowships, and teaching opportunities.
