Position Summary
The Climate and Severe Weather research group at Central Michigan University is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to conduct research on a project involving analysis and downscaling of CMIP6 model output to determine characteristics of severe convective storms and associated perils under human-induced climate change. Accordingly, experience with climate datasets, high-performance computing, numerical modeling, and statistical analysis is required, as is basic knowledge of severe convective storms and the environmental conditions that support their formation. The appointee is expected to carry out their research responsibilities with limited guidance. Mentoring of the appointees will be conducted according to NSF guidelines. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This is part of a collaborative project being undertaken with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The expected starting date for the appointment is in April 2022. The appointment is for 12 months (renewable based on satisfactory performance and funding availability) and will be located on the main campus of Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, MI. The search will remain open until the position has been filled.
Required Qualifications
* Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or in a closely related field completed within the last 6 years.
* Experience and background in climate datasets, high-performance computing, numerical modeling and statistical analysis, along with a basic knowledge of severe convective storms and their formative environments.
*Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
* Excellent writing and communication skills.
* Previous experience in the writing of scientific publications.
