Position Term: This is full-time 1-year term position with potential
extension to 2 years for a post-doctoral research fellow at NCAR.

Relocation: No relocation package is offered for this position

Work Authorization: UCAR/NCAR will sponsor a work visa to fill this position

Salary full-time FTE: $70,270

Where You Will Work:

*NCAR *- Located in Boulder, Colorado, the National Center for Atmospheric
Research (NCAR) is one of the world’s premier scientific institutions, with
an internationally recognized staff and research program dedicated to
advancing knowledge, providing community-based resources, and building
human capacity in the atmospheric and related sciences.  NCAR is sponsored
by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and managed by the University
Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)

What You Will Do:

The new hire will conduct applied research on developing actionable climate
science knowledge and guidance focused on hydroclimatic changes and climate
model downscaling methods in close collaboration with stakeholders.
Additionally, the post-doc will assist with various aspects of knowledge
and technology transfer to the stakeholders.  The post-doc will work within
a world-class, multi-institutional research team across university and
federal partners, and specifically within an interdisciplinary research
group at NCAR dedicated to water resource applications.

Responsibilities:

   -

   Quantitatively evaluate a large collection of downscaled climate
   simulations in comparison to historical observations.
   -

   Work with stakeholders and the research team to develop documentation,
   assist with decision support tool design and implementation for downscaling
   method selection.
   -

   Qualitatively evaluate downscaling approaches, key characteristics,
   technical details, and methodological assumptions.
   -

   Communicate research results through publication in peer-reviewed
   journals and presentations at scientific meetings. Assist in the
   preparation of project reporting materials.

What You Need:

*Education and Years of Experience:*

Ph.D. degree in atmospheric or hydrologic science or relevant engineering
disciplines

*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: *

   -

   Knowledge and understanding of climate change and downscaling
   techniques, as well as ability to analyze related datasets
   -

   Skills in written and oral communication of research results, including
   in an interdisciplinary context.
   -

   Familiarity with some or all: NetCDF, Python, and high-performance
   computing.
   -

   Ability to interact productively with an interdisciplinary team of
   scientists and software engineers.
   -

   Ability to publish research results in peer-reviewed journals.
