We are seeking an outstanding scientist for a joint appointment between the newly formed Department of Earth, Atmosphere, and Environment at Northern Illinois University (NIU) and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). Specifically, we are looking for candidates that can work closely with scientists in the Weather, Climate, and Society Group and the Center for Research Computing and Data at NIU to apply computationally-informed approaches to weather and climate research questions. Both Argonne and NIU boast substantial capabilities on existing and upcoming HPC platforms that permit cutting edge computational approaches at scale.

In this role, the successful candidate can expect to:

  * Work in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment consisting of atmospheric scientists and computational scientists
  * Research and develop efficient regional weather and climate modeling workflows on multiple HPC platforms using one or more of the following: WRF, MPAS, and/or GFDL-FV3
  * Manage and quality control input model data from GCMs and/or ensemble forecast models and the resulting regional climate model output
  * Support faculty and students on issues related to HPC platforms at Argonne and NIU (e.g., compiling FORTRAN or C/C++ code, managing dependencies and environments, shell scripting, etc.)

More information on requirements and instructions to apply can be found at https://employment.niu.edu/postings/62324.

Please share with any students or early career scientists who may be interested. The position will remain open until filled, but preference will be given to applications received by April 1st.

Thank you for your help advertising this position!
