Tel Aviv University’s Porter School of the Environment and Earth Sciences is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to participate in ongoing analyses that support fast action on methane. The researcher will work with a team including members at Duke University (USA) to identify policies that work along with implementation barriers for individual mitigation options, bringing those together with national mitigation potentials to catalyze progress at the national level.

The position will be supervised by Prof. Colin Price and Prof. Drew Shindell (https://www.flash.sites.tau.ac.il/; https://nicholas.duke.edu/people/faculty/shindell ). The researcher will conduct detailed analyses of current emissions intensities (emissions per unit of activity) in the coal, agriculture (livestock and rice) and waste sectors. The researcher will then study the best-performing countries to evaluate the regulatory and policy approaches that have been used to achieve their high performance levels. The work will also examine financial barriers to implementation and potential ways to overcome them.

Expertise in a relevant area including atmospheric sciences, greenhouse gas emissions, and/or regulatory policies and a PhD in a related field are required. The candidate must be fluent in computer programming, preferably python and excel, and will ideally have experience in working with large datasets. The candidate should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively and have a good command of English.

Time Frame: Initial appointment will be for 1 year, with possibility to extend to 2 or 3 years. Position available immediately; priority consideration for applications submitted by April 30, 2022.

Application Process: To apply, submit a single pdf that includes: (1) cover letter describing your interest in and qualifications for the position; (2) a detailed curriculum vitae; (3) up to three scholarly works; (4) names and contact information for three references. Applications should be sent to cprice at flash.tau.ac.il and drew.shindell at duke.edu
