The Department of River-Coastal Science and Engineering at Tulane University, New Orleans, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in Hydroclimatology.

The anticipated start date for the position is between May 1 and September 30, 2022. Appointments are for one year, with the possibility of renewal depending upon satisfactory performance and funding availability.

The position will focus on hydroclimatic variability under climate change. The successful candidate will investigate changes in the seasonality, generation mechanism, intensity, and intermittency of precipitation in the Southeastern US. Specific emphasis will be given to the role of land-atmosphere interactions and the link between vegetation-climate relations and precipitation.

River-Coastal Science and Engineering is a diverse and welcoming community of scientists with excellent scholarship across the civil, environmental, and coastal ocean engineering disciplines with elements of geosciences and ecological sciences. The department focuses on the world’s river, deltaic and coastal systems using the combined science and engineering approach.

In line with the cross disciplinary nature of the Department, the candidate will be expected to build strong links with collaborators in the Departments of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Tulane University and the Tulane ByWater Institute.

*Qualifications*

Required:
Candidates should have completed or be nearing completion of a Ph.D. in hydroclimatology, hydrology, physical climatology, civil/environmental engineering, or a closely related field. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, and the ability to use independent judgment are required. Evidence of the ability to design, conduct and publish high-quality research is also required.

Preferred:
Prior experience with advanced statistical methods, stochastic modeling, and the ability to analyze and manipulate large datasets are strongly recommended.
