The Center for Environmentally Sustainable Mining (CESM) at the University
of Arizona (Tucson, AZ) is seeking a Research Scientist interested in
ecosystem sustainability. The research focuses on sustainable land recovery
of mine-affected lands. This position will work at the
academia-industry-community interface with a strong emphasis on research
translation. The science of sustainable land reclamation is in its infancy,
yet it is vital to the future of sustainable mining and is ripe for
development with enthusiastic support from the mining industry and
communities impacted by mine operations.



Responsibilities for this position include both research and program
coordination. We seek applicants with an MS or comparable work experience
in soil, environmental, or plant sciences, ecology, geosciences or a
related field. Applicants should have experience in field or controlled
experiments and in laboratory analysis of soil or plant samples. Strong
data management and statistical analysis skills are preferred.



Program coordinator responsibilities require strong organizational
experience to facilitate the academic-industry-community research and
interactions that promote the mission of CESM. Specifically, these
responsibilities include meeting organization, coordination of the CESM
Industry technical advisory committee, website maintenance, and networking
with other mining programs on campus. The applicant should also be
comfortable with the organization of community outreach events on
revegetation and sustainable mining topics.



The position requires travel for field sampling, outreach and research
translation and scientific meetings (up to 5 non-concurrent weeks per year).
