Two postdoctoral researcher positions, studying Arctic multiphase
atmospheric chemistry, are available in the research lab of Prof. Kerri
Pratt (http://prattlab.chem.lsa.umich.edu/) in the Departments of Chemistry
and Earth & Environmental Sciences at the University of Michigan.
1) One position will focus on chemical ionization mass spectrometry data
collected during previous Arctic field campaigns and will include
calibration, analysis, and interpretation of these data. Candidates should
have experience operating field-deployable atmospheric trace gas or aerosol
mass spectrometers, analyzing ambient data collected using these
instruments, and using IGOR or MATLAB.
2) One position will focus on the analysis of particle, cloud, and snow
samples, collected during a previous Arctic field campaign, using ion
chromatography and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Experience
analyzing environmental samples using chromatography is preferred.
Additional postdoc responsibilities will include mentoring graduate and
undergraduate students and preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed
publication. Both positions may include the opportunity to conduct 0-D
and/or 1-D numerical modeling and will involve collaborating with
scientists at other institutions.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a PhD (by appointment start date) in
Chemistry, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, or a related
science or engineering field. Strong written and oral communication skills
and the ability to work as part of a team are necessary.
The initial appointments are for one year, with renewal based on funding
and performance.
Please email your CV, cover letter (describing your research experience,
interests, career goals, and fit for the position), representative
publications, and contact information for 3 references to Prof. Kerri
Pratt, email: prattka at umich.edu. Review of applications will begin
immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
