Job Title: Postdoctoral scientist: Air quality emissions quantification
School of Informatics, Computing and Cyber Systems
Northern Arizona University
Flagstaff, Arizona
Join an exciting Northern Arizona University research team (https://gurneylab.nau.edu/) in beautiful Flagstaff, Arizona doing cutting-edge research on merging local air pollution (CAPs) emissions with greenhouse gas emissions. This postdoctoral position will perform research on quantification and analysis of air quality emissions (the criteria air pollutants) at fine space/time scales in the US. This is an ongoing effort to incorporate local air pollution emissions onto the Vulcan fossil fuel CO2 emissions platform (https://vulcan.rc.nau.edu/) and analysis of the co-benefits and trade-offs resulting from combine emissions mitigation policy. The position intersects the disciplines of carbon cycle science, spatial analysis, air pollution emissions/chemistry, informatics, and emissions accounting.
Candidates must have received a PhD in a field related to position (e.g., Informatics, Civil Engineering, Ecological/Environmental Sciences) from an accredited college or university. The applicant will be expected to publish peer-reviewed journal articles and work in a team environment, effectively communicating with a range of physical and social scientists.
Necessary skills: knowledge of local air pollution reporting and quantification and analysis, geospatial statistics, strong numerical analysis abilities, R/python programming, experience with large volume data environments and related coding. Desired skills: knowledge and experience working with the National Emissions Inventory, carbon accounting/footprinting experience, GIS experience.
Given the multidisciplinary nature of the research, a highly self-directed, creative and self-motivated individual is sought. The position is a fulltime appointment with an anticipated start date between 11/1/2022 and 3/1/2023. The appointment will be made initially for one year with possibility of extension for additional years. Salary range is $60,000-$75,000 dependent on experience, with associated University benefits.
