Post-Doctoral Research Position in Aeolian Environmental Systems

There is an open position for a post-doctoral scholar with prior research interests in the past, present, and future of aeolian environmental systems. The candidate should be a recent PhD (within past 10 years) in earth and environmental sciences, geosciences, geology, geophysics, planetary sciences, geochronology, remote sensing and GIS. This position is to advance our understanding of coupled aeolian/fluvial processes and systems in the Southern High Plains and Basin and Range to better understand response to recent, Holocene and Late Quaternary climate variability and for possible planetary analogs. The exact research project is open to the candidate and favor those that would advance collaborative inquiry in novel ways.

There is an unparallel set of field and analytical tools at Baylor and nearby universities to bring to bear for this research including terrestrial coring with a Geoprobe, automated core logging, measurement of stable and radiogenic isotopes, environmental magnetism, micromorphology, biogeochemistry, paleogenomics and OSL and 14C dating. Applicants should have a strong background in one or more areas including GIS/remote sensing, geomorphology, biogeochemistry, sedimentology, stratigraphy, pedology, paleoclimatology, geochronology, passive/active source near surface seismology, and geophysical modeling and the ability to work collaboratively within a research group.

Baylor is located within the "fertile crescent of geoscience research" with collaborative relations with faculty at Texas A & M Univ., Univ. of Texas, and Univ. of Houston and associated industrial partners. Interested candidates should send a cover letter detailing research interests and future professional directions, a CV, and three authored peer-reviewed publications. Salary is $47,500/yr with $4000 unrestricted research funds. Position is for one year but may be extended an additional year based on progress and funding. Please contact Prof. Steven L. Forman if interested at the Dept. of Geosciences, Baylor University, Waco, Texas 76710; email: Steven_Forman at Baylor.edu<mailto:Steven_Forman at Baylor.edu>.
